Yvonne E. Chiu, MD
Associate Professor and
Dr. Chiu is an Associate Professor of Dermatology and Pediatrics and Residency Program Director at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She is a pediatric dermatologist at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. She graduated with high distinction from the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in molecular and cell biology. She then received her medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, graduating with highest distinction. She completed an internship in Pediatrics, residency in Dermatology (serving as chief resident her final year), and fellowship in Pediatric Dermatology at the Medical College of Wisconsin and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.
Dr. Chiu is an active researcher and enthusiastic educator. Her research focuses on morphea, an autoimmune fibrosing disease of the skin and underlying tissues. She collaborates with researchers across the country and internationally on many projects to advance our understanding of this rare disease. In addition, Dr. Chiu serves as the Program Director of the Dermatology Residency and is passionate about training the next generation of physicians.
Dr. Chiu specializes in pediatric dermatology and treats all skin conditions in infants, children, and adolescents. She believes in empowering children and families to be active participants in the treatment process. Through education about the skin condition and expert advice guidance about treatment options, parents are encouraged to make the best treatment decision for their child with her guidance.

Dr. Chiu is active in clinical and translational research. Her main research interests lie in pediatric morphea, an autoimmune fibrosing disorder of the skin. She has built a multicenter clinical registry and biobank to study this rare disease and is currently enrolling patients. Dr. Chiu is using next generation sequencing techniques to identify causative mutations in pediatric morphea. In addition, she has multiple other studies designed to improve understanding of morphea and develop better treatments. Dr. Chiu also has research interests in other autoimmune connective tissue diseases of the skin, including cutaneous lupus erythematosus and juvenile dermatomyositis, with prior publications on these diseases and ongoing research efforts in both.
Dr. Chiu is a member of the Pediatric Dermatology Research Alliance (PeDRA), an international collaborative of pediatric dermatology researchers, and she co-chairs the PeDRA Connective Tissue Disease subgroup. A member of the Children’s Research Institute and the Clinical and Translational Science Institute of Southeast Wisconsin, Dr. Chiu works with multidisciplinary investigators to advance medical research. Her work has been recognized with funding from the Dermatology Foundation, Society for Pediatric Dermatology, Medical College of Wisconsin, and the Greater Milwaukee Foundation.
